Kraft paper coating with PVA
Plastics are used in the coating or laminating of paper and paperboard to increase its functionality such as strength, water-resistance, heat-seal. The problem is that once paper and plastic is combined, it becomes impossible to recycle adding harmful waste to our environment.
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a non-ionic water-soluble polymer that is well suited for water-based barrier coatings. It is a linear and crystalline polymer that is also biodegradable under the right conditions. The hydrophilic nature of polyvinyl alcohol makes it well suited as a barrier against grease and mineral oils. The hydrogen bonds between the polymer chains together with the crystalline structure make polyvinyl alcohol the best available barrier against oxygen.
Using kraft paper coating with PVA, it has the following advantages:
1. biodegradable--it can be re-used for household green waste. It is fully compatible with anaerobic digester and composters.
2. recyclable--It can be disposed of with household paper waste for recycling and is compatible with re-pulping systems and paper waste disposal. No need to separate the plastic sheet before recycling.
3. excellent barrier properties--Owning to its great barrier property, it can be as a barrier to grease and mineral oils, oxygen and smells.
Using this paper bag, it can be used as mailer bag, mothball packing bag, garment bag, and other commodities packaging bag.
